Fishing early Friday and Saturday in Arkansas might require equipment more geared to the far north, like ice fishing gear. After the wind chill in south-central Arkansas hit 6 degrees on Thursday morning in south-central Arkansas (actually temperature of 24 at this location, where the Fishing Report editor was spending his morning), the National Weather Service forecasts nothing but frigid cold for Friday and Saturday before what we hope is a warming trend Sunday under sunny skies. Actual temps could drop as low as 16-17 overnight in central Arkansas alone for the weekend.
That doesn’t you have to stay off ALL the water during the daytime: There might be some open spots around, and the sun might warm things up Saturday during the day. You’ll just probably have to fish for crappie and bass a lot deeper than you’ve been finding them.
Crappie have been excellent at such locations as Lake Maumelle this week.
